Lastly, for all the gameplay elements that people felt Shenmue 3 "improved", it also created brand new problems that weren't in the first two games, so it's like one-step forward and one-step back (in some cases two-steps back).Įverything I'm talking about got fully documented in a mega rant two months after the game came out. You could argue that the budget was the reason for all of that, but that just makes my point that the developers didn't even have the resources to make it play "faithfully". All that stuff got downgraded or poorly implemented in Shenmue 3, almost as if the game was designed by people who didn't even play Shenmue 1 or 2. Controller options, combat/QTE mechanics, conversing with NPCs, map navigation features, nighttime hours, and even shopping at stores. I'm not even talking about Shenmue 3 retconning story events or Shenhua's new dumb-looking banana outfit, I'm talking about actual gameplay elements in Shenmue 3 being worse. You must've not played the first two games. For anyone saying that Shenmue 3 played like a "classic" or was a "faithful" follow-up to Shenmue 1 and 2, that's total bullshit.
